The drive is a steady run south on the Autopista Duarte through Santiago and La Vega; what varies is the last half hour, since entering the capital between 16:00 and 19:00 on a weekday is slower than any other part of the trip. We build that into the timing rather than pretending it does not exist. The Colonial Zone deserves one warning: several streets are pedestrian or one-way cobblestone, so the driver uses the nearest legal stop and walks your bags to the door instead of circling for twenty minutes. Send the hotel name or a pin and we agree the drop point before the car leaves Puerto Plata.
City hotels drop at the entrance. In the Zona Colonial we use the closest legal stop to your door — the streets there are narrow, cobbled and partly pedestrian — and the driver carries the bags the last few metres.
